Can someone help e who knows about windows movie maker?

We just downloaded Windows Movie Maker into my XP. We're doing a video for a school project, the biggest one this year. But it won't take The video clips from the canon powershot A640 but it says it doesn't support WMM. My friend swears he's done this at home before... is there anything we can do??
