Cleaning a clothes dryer?

I have an old Whirlpool gas clothes dryer that is becoming less and less efficient at drying. I am thinking that there is a lint clog somewhere but could use some advice before I tear it apart to find it. I can feel a decent flow on the outside vent. The removable filter is becoming less and less filled with lint. Any help appreciated. Thanks
