What have been the experiences, good and bad, from being the owner/driver of a smart (brand) car?

smart is coming to the US. I'm very interested, given fuel prices and my reduced ability to control vehicles like I currently drive. I'm 64, reflexes greatly affected by required medications, and currently drive a Ford Focus SVT. We could use the smart around town, and the Honda Mini-van on longer excursions.
