What should I do with linguistics?

My plan for a year now has been to double major in linguistics and German/Russian, teach ESL abroad, go to grad school to get my masters and doctorate, and try to become a professor. But now I'm thinking this may be unrealistic, as getting into academia is very difficult, if not impossible. Should I combine linguistics with something more practical like computer science or economics so I don't end up in debt with a PhD and no prospects? My primary concern isn't money, it's happiness. But I can't be idealistic and ume that I'll find a nice tenure job at a fine institution with sufficient pay and benefits. What else can I double major in to make a more lucrative combination? What sort of opportunities do I have that are more feasible than higher education and research?
