Does anyone know the answer to this Professor Layton -PANDORAS BOX- riddle?

The answer is 4, we are 20 metres from the green, so to get to the green we can go 11 metres plus 7 metres plus 5 metres (11+7+5) this equals 23 metres, since the hole is only 20 metres away, we have gone 3 metres too far, now if we have a look we can see that te golfer can put 3 metres, this would end up taking us back to the hole, so we used 4 strokes to get to the hole
